About Us
Doctuh Mistuh Productions
Mission
Our mission is to bring lesser-performed musicals and plays to audience members who yearn to be challenged, shocked, scared, or simply amused. We believe in the promotion of new and original work, but also the rediscovery of quality material that may be underappreciated.
We support BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ theatre artists. No matter the political landscape of the country, we will continue to create opportunities for equity, diversity, and inclusion on and off stage, and in the stories we tell.
How We Got Here
In 2009, seeing a lack of smaller, edgy musical theatre titles being produced in the Austin area, a group of friends got together to produce one of the first regional productions of Evil Dead, The Musical in the U.S. And thus, Doctuh Mistuh Productions was born.
Since that time, DMP has gone on to produce numerous regional premieres of Off-Broadway musicals and plays that may have never been presented in cities such as Austin, New Orleans, and Durango, CO. Such titles include: Heathers, The Musical; Nevermore, The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe; Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson; Reefer Madness, The Musical; and Silence, The Musical. We have also produced more mainstream shows, such as Sondheim's Company and The Laramie Project, and readings of plays, like Angels in America, which had not been seen by the communities in years.
Meet the Organizer
Doctuh Mistuh Productions (DMP) brings lesser-performed musicals and plays to audiences who yearn to be challenged/shocked/scared/amused. While we always look forward to a happy ending, we dare to produce the shows that others secretly want to. DMP makes theatre that is not for the faint of heart or prudish of thought.
