Color Arc Productions is back for its 4th year of live storytelling with fresh and locally sourced performances in STORIES ABOUT PIZZA. Thanks to Via 313, Austin's mainstay for genuine Detroit-style pizza, we will draw winners of Via 313 gift cards throughout the night! 

🍕PIZZA PERFORMERS

A buffet of Pizza Performers – pizza poets, true tale tellers, a flash fiction writer, a violin comedian, a ukulele singer, an abstract comedy dancer, and a drag king – will perform original “Pizza Pieces” at AFS Cinema. Our Pizza Performers are Michelle Alexander, Olivia Kathryn Baker, Seth Beaugh, Alexa Capareda, Alex Garza, Jacob Duffy Halbleib, Tien Hoang, James Hughes, Mark Killian, Mia King, T. Lynn Mikeska, River Montgomery, Angela Tolle, and Felice Trirogoff.

🍕SHORT FILMS

We’ll also screen short films about pizza & comfort food including Color Arc’s award-winning short film Pizza My Heart and Color Arc’s work-in-progress animated/live action nonfiction short Sweet Potato Pig.

Pizza My Heart is a comedy short that follows a Pizza Telegram Singing Delivery Specialist (Christine Hoang) as she delivers music and comfort food to a heartbroken 12yo girl (Vanessa Hoang Hughes). Directed by Elizabeth V. Newman, written by Christine Hoang, original score by Tyler Mabry, and two original songs by Tyler Mabry and Christine Hoang. Thanks to Austin PBS, our distribution partner and presenting station, Pizza My Heart is now streaming for free on the PBS app and PBS.org. 

Sweet Potato Pig is a hybrid animated/live action nonfiction short that follows Tien Hoang’s immigrant journey through her food memories. It's directed by her daughter Christine Hoang. It includes stop-motion animation by Liz Tyson, hand-drawn and hand-painted images by Jieun Beth Kim, rotoscope animation by Vitra Larastiana, and live action cinematography by Long Nguyen. Tien Hoang first told her story at Color Arc’s inaugural storytelling show STORIES ABOUT COMFORT FOOD in 2023. We’re now excited to present a work-in-progress screening of Sweet Potato Pig at STORIES ABOUT PIZZA in 2026. Follow our indie film journey on Instagram: @sweetpotatopigfilm.
